“I’ll do better.” I pressed my forehead to his and he frowned.
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
“You didn’t do anything wrong. You don’t have to do better…”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
star read
Another author that has me compelled to write out my thoughts about a read 😅
Characters
Grand, the MMC, an underground fighter whose only glaring fault is poor judgment in friends/acquaintances which causes him to lose someone he loved dearly, and time with his son Raiden
Saniya, the FMC, a highly sought after photographer who can manage to get close to subjects of interest, equipped with a poor picker for men.
Sidenote: When I tell you that I loved them both as individuals and together? Loved them!!
Unlucky You deals with the use of a date rape drug, incarceration, illegal activitaties (underground boxing and street racing, bribing, and threatening of State Officials), grief, survivors guilt and depression. This however is balanced out with healthy familial and romantic relationships, healing, and people getting what they deserve.
Would I recommend this read?
Yes, I most definitely would.
The digital version of Unlucky You can be purchased through Amazon. The print edition of Unlucky You is available through Mrs. K.C. Mills website.

**read at own risk, as this can contain spoilers**
Where do I start? Because there was a lot that went on in my mind when reading this. Let me try and sort them out so that you can follow along with my train of thought.
Now Mrs. Mills said from the start that this was a moody, edgy romance! So I was prepared to shed some tears
“We both understood what was happening. Alec Johnson had money and influence. We did not.”
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
Nopes… The first feeling I got hit over the head with was Anger. Anger for the way the judicial system was set up, and how it could be influenced by money and people in position of power.
“This was the hard part. I’d lost close to five years with my son… That shit was a hard reality to deal with, but I had to make things right.”
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
The second was Compassion, survivors guilt or guilt in general can be a beast. Distorting the actual events that took place, and inflicts a pain much worse on your self. Which happened with Grand. Accountability is one thing, but he took it to a whole ‘nother level 👀
“You’re my dad, right?”
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
“Yeah.” My heart clenched with what he might say next but then I almost fucking lost it.
“Can I have a hug? I never got to hug you before.”
🥲
Dammit, I thought I was prepared
“Mommy, I get to see my daddy now. My nana told me he was coming home and now he’s here. I wish you could come home too but Nana told me you have to be my angel and you couldn’t come home. It makes me sad because I want you to be here with my daddy and her. I’m gonna keep praying like my nana taught me and maybe one day you can be my angel here and not far away. I love you, Mommy. Good night.”

SheReadsaLot: Now let me take some time out to address Mrs. Mills over here. Because this was unjust.. I mean the horse is dead already.. Don’t you see me over here all in my feelings? Was this actually necessary?

“You showed your hand. You assumed I would be so desperate for the money that I would do anything to get it, which means you counted on me agreeing to whatever terms you threw at me…”
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
SheReadsaLot: Thank you Mrs. Mills
Those tears dried up real quick and it went to rage. Grand was surrounded by so many vultures, who preyed upon his situation.
You had Trix trying to use Grand’s position to make money off him
Grand’s P.O. who displayed a gross abuse of power just to get some D. If thirsty was a person 😮💨
Again the judicial system, making it almost impossible for a “regular” person to escape their clutches after completion of their sentence.
SheReadsaLot: SheReadsaLot, calm down now, this is fiction dear.
SheReadsaLot: But… But… is it though?
“You tried your best. It’s okay if you’re not good at golf.” Oh my heart. This kid was the sweetest.
Unlucky You by Mrs. K.C. Mills
Grand kneeled so he was eye level with his son. “Preciate that man.”
Raiden hugged him. “You’re still the best dad, even if you can’t play golf.”
SheReadsaLot: O looky here, Mrs. Mills took mercy on me 🤭
Each time Raiden was on page he took me out of my feelings and left me either laughing, smiling, or just filled up with all the positive emotions available.
Audience: Now Ma’am, you’ve been rambling for a while now. What were your overall thoughts and would you recommend?
SheReadsaLot: Thanks for getting me back on track 🥹
