Week in Review – W6

Can you believe that we are entering week 7 of this new year already?

As always, I am starting off with a thank you to all the authors that I’ve read this week. You are so very much appreciated for your time, and dedication to your craft.

Let’s dive into my week.

This week was honestly a bit rough for me.

Recovering from the flu is taking a bit longer than I would’ve liked, which I’m annoyed by, because it means I can’t read and write about my thoughts during my reads like I’m accustomed to. But, I am happy to be reading, it really is one of my happy places!

Some stats about my week

  • I’ve read 12 books this week (only posted 10)
  • from 11 different authors (1 new to me)
  • totaling 1.979 pages
  • making it around 165 pages per book
  • and 282 pages read per day

Would you look at that! Here I was beating my self up, about reading slower and I am apparently doing better than last week. Hurray for journaling.

Overview of the books read

Week Opener

You Gone Pay Me in Tears by Mrs. Evonna Evonna

Starting my week off was new to me author Mrs. Evonna Evonna with her completed series You Gone Pay Me in Tears series.

There was a whole lot of foul at play in this series. And it was a perfect example of the “pedagogy of the oppressed”. Where people being oppressed internalize this so much, that they themselves start to uphold the systems in place.

Yes, this pedagogy can be, and is, applied to the macro and micro level. It PMO so bad.

Love Me Not by Mrs. Ayla Cox

After those books, I was in need for something lighter. And Mrs. Ayla Cox provided me just that with Love Me Not, a low conflict, grumpy sunshine, lovers to friends, slow burn romance. This was also one of the books of the Cupid’s Countdown collaboration.

Malik was something special, and I was happy to see that Cass realized this about him, but came to see that she was as well. AND she was worthy of being seen.

The De Santis Cartel by Mrs. K.C. Mills

After having my mental sunshine tank filled back up to F, I was happy to see that Mrs. K.C. Mills released her affiliated crime family of the INC, the De Santis Cartel.

This read has so much I love reading about! Bikers, Crime Family, Arranged Marriage. AND a MMC standing on business about his! A FMC finding her voice, because with parents like that, who needs enemies?!

Sundae & Taavon by Mrs. Charity Shane’

KMP Publishing regaled us with the Recipe For Love series, and I decided to pick up the books by the authors that were already released. Starting with Mrs. Charity Shane’s Sundae & Taavon.

Here I was thinking this is such a sweet and romantic read, and then it got downright N-A-S-T-Y. Don’t know who I was thinking I was reading from, knowing that Mrs. Shane’ ups the ante, each and every time.

Talk about opening a series with a Bang, I love it!!

Evan & Bellerose by Mrs. ML Bash

Book two, Evan & Bellerose was delivered to us by Mrs. ML Bash.

When I tell you that I was side-eyeing Evan?! I Was SIDE-EYEING Evan. Let me not go too deep into the why. He got himself together.

And they were young…

Valentine’s With a Boss by Mrs. Coya Wilson

I went back to the Cupid’s Countdown collab to pick up the finale to Nyemi & Kraft, Valentine’s with a Boss by Mrs. Coya Wilson.

When I first got to know Nyemi in Christmas with a Boss (the first installment), she tapdanced on E-V-E-R-Y single nerve that I had.

Yet here I was… Once again!

And Nyemi got herself all the way together! She backslid here and there, but she finally stopped self-sabotaging. I was happy to see that!

Thicker than Smoke by Mrs. Rowdy Rooksy

I was browsing for my next read, like my TBR wasn’t right there, and found a book by Mrs. Rowdy Rooksy. Remembering how I enjoyed her pen, and wanting something a bit darker, I decided to pick up Thicker than Smoke.

And she delivered all the way. This book was gritty and dark, and put me a bit in the mind frame of Gotham (the series, used to love that series). I am looking forward to reading more about the Ravenhurst inhabitants, even though I don’t necessarily like Nev at this moment.

Stella & Nine by Mrs. Kennedy B.

In the meantime the third book in the Recipe for Love series was released, Stella & Nine by Mrs. Kennedy B. Mrs. Kennedy B. delivered a complete read for me with Stella & Nine.

Nine was indeed not nice, he was however kind. I believe that more people should be putting the emphasis on kindness, instead of being nice. A lot of $%^& goes down behind a nice smile.

This series from what I have read is now 3 for 3 for me. These authors decided to bring it!

Week Closer

Loving Amir by Mrs. Tessa Stone

Mrs. Tessa Stone was my week closer this week. This read was a lot. One of the things I love about Mrs. Stone’s Wintermoon is the social commentary/parallels to current events. This is driven home all the way in her latest installment of the Fated Mates series, Loving Amir.

I need to digest my consumption of this read, so I can properly explain/ramble why I love this series so much, and maybe compel you to pick it up… if you haven’t already.
