Week in Review – W18

Another week, another week in review.

Starting off like always! By taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.

I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art.

And

I think I’m up and running once again. This week was a short week work wise. Meaning, more time to read,

Let me go on and tell you how that looked for me.

Some stats about my week

  • I completed 10 books this week (1 not documented)
  • by 10 different authors ( 3 new to me)
  • totaling 3.496 pages
  • making it around 349.6 pages per book
  • averaging 499.4 pages read per day

Overview of the Books read

Week Opener

Opening up my week was Mrs. Lisa Austin, who had released the finale in her On the Mob: The Cuppacio Twins series. When I tell you that I have been waiting on this one from the 15th of December last year?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am she had released it on the 12th of December!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: See what had happened was… I thought the second book was the finale…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Did Mrs. Austin tell you it was the finale?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: … Just know I was waiting on this one!

I was making sure that I didn’t miss any of the notifications from Mrs. Austin’s page… Even highlighting it on the 15th of April just to undoubtedly make sure I wouldn’t miss it…

And you know what happened?

But let us not dwell on what went wrong shall we. I found out, and read it.

This was a thicky at 484 pages, and it started off with me being in suspense, and the only thing I was truly hoping for was that Neltz would be around a bit longer to “love” on everyone.

A lot happened in the finale, everything got resolved! Selena’s murderer remained jailed, they all got their happily ever after…

And as we are closing out the Twins story… I spotted some new characters, especially Mrs. SHUSH!!

“… I’m not takin’ the chain because that nigga can come get it from you himself, while bringin’ you a fat-ass check and a long-ass apology. Except you gotta do me a favor.”
….
“Don’t let that nigga come at you until you finish with school. Don’t put up with his shit a year before then. Matta fact, wait until you land your dream job and be in that bitch ’bout a year. Then, you can hear that nigga out. Aite?”

On the mob 3: The Cuppacio Twins by Mrs. Lisa Austin

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now why would you like her telling somebody that?

SheReadsaLot: You know there are a lot of mothers who would extend so much grace to the men for all the BS that they would bring on the doorstep of their daughters…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: MA’AM… STOP PREACHING ALREADY!

SheReadsaLot: So you get me then?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Yes, and the funny thing was she wasn’t even talking to her daughter!

SheReadsaLot: Exactly! A MOTHER!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So when are we gonna be able to read more about Madam Shush?

SheReadsaLot: When Mrs. Austin deems the story to be ready… Look how we waited for this story, and the end result was worth it?

Smoke by Mrs. Kimberly Brown

After my first read of the week, I Picked up Mrs. Kimberly Brown‘s latest release, Smoke, about the third Dillinger brother.

“I’m your man, why wouldn’t I invest in your future? Why wouldn’t I make sure you and our girls are straight?”

Smoke by Mrs. Kimberly Brown

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Big Daddy?

SheReadsaLot: BIG DADDY!

Smoke was a man!!

“I bet your thighs would look great in some hoochie daddy shorts,” she said, snickering.

Smoke by Mrs. Kimberly Brown

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A delicious sounding man!!

SheReadsaLot: Now Ma’am, we don’t objectify over here!

Smoke, Devin, is a Dillinger. Meaning a well connected man that takes a liking to Romi, FMC, who has some “small” issues, and is a very independent woman.

SheReadsaLot: We Love Us Some Strong Independent Women over here! We are from the DC era!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am is this you?!

I didn’t like her though

SheReadsaLot in the DM’s

SheReadsaLot: Ma’am why are you choosing violence?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Now see… what had happened was..

Romi finds herself in a bind..

She takes shooting lessons from Smoke, is even willing to pay for them! BUT…

SHE NEVER HAS HER WEAPON ON HER

SheReadsaLot to Audience: When I tell you I was distraught?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: There there now… It was only a story! These characters are fictional!

SheReadsaLot: Yes.. You are completely right… And she got herself together, finally asked for help.. Big Daddy was there… It was all a good story… Nothing to be distraught about… We are not our worst enemy when we are in danger and need help… This is all fictional!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

Solomon Dark by Mr. Erick S. Gray

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Did I tell you all I created a Netgalley account?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now you know darn well that you didn’t tell these people anything like that!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: So, I created a Netgalley account, patience and all that!

I was applying left and right, not knowing that you can also apply for books already released apparently.

Enter new to me author Mr. Erick S. Gray with Solomon Dark!

The story about Solomon, taking place in the 1800s USA. Who after his escape has to make a decision to gain his freedom.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I don’t know why you even applied for this book, you know you can get sensitive when it has to deal with recent history!

SheReadsaLot: But I got approved! And I’m working on getting a 100% score! And my sensitive stage had passed somewhat!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And you see how that turned out for you..

SheReadsaLot: But there were so many beautiful moments! Remember this one?

“She remembered that hurtful night they made her strip completely naked and forced her to have sex with Andrew for their twisted entertainment. Cherry gripped the ax tighter and scowled at her rapist and abuser….
Cherry raised the ax and hacked into his neck. Then she straddled his body, raised the ax again, and chopped into him with measured focus. She repeated the brutal act until she decapitated him.”

Solomon Dark by Mr. Erick S. Gray

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now normally I would be side-eyeing you for calling this a beautiful moment… But it was indeed a beautiful moment!

SheReadsaLot: I mean wasn’t it? Usually a man will avenge the “virtue” stolen from a woman, but here SHE, the one victimized, got the chance to confront her rapist and abuser. She got the chance to reclaim her power. It was glorious!

Like I said, I got triggered! But the things that triggered me, weren’t necessarily in the storytelling. It was the accuracy of the history. Yes this was fiction, but the historical component made it so much more real!

As triggered as I was, I finished it though, from front to end. And I will pick up the continuation of this story! The quote that spoke the most to me, and was also triggering?

“The world is a dangerous place, my friend. But it can become a lot more dangerous if people stand by and don’t do anything about it”

Solomon Dark by Mr. Erick S. Gray

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I’ll leave you all to think about why that particular statement triggered me…

Cum Into The Dark by Mrs. Latoya Nicole

I was already triggered, so I stayed on the Dark side thanks to Mrs. Latoya Nicole‘s Cum Into the Dark.

About Solana, FMC, and Amir, MMC, also goes by the moniker Prince of Darkness. And we get to know some more characters.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay, you can let it out…

SheReadsaLot: THEY WERE ALL CRAZY!!!

SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Nicole:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now back it up some.. Did you or didn’t you finish this read?

SheReadsaLot: I did! and I enjoyed the heck out of this read!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So who exactly are you judging Ma’am?

SheReadsaLot: Shannon!

“As if he knew I was watching, he looked up at the camera and smirked. Dutch grabbed my bag of Reese’s dipped pretzels, opened them, and shot his seeds inside. When he shook the bag to make sure his cum covered all of them, I exited the camera app.”

“Walking downstairs, I grabbed my pretzels, sat on the couch, and began to eat them. Man, I loved my fucking life.”

Cum Into The Dark by Mrs. Latoya Nicole

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now, don’t go yuck someone’s yum!

SheReadsaLot: Well she liked it, so I loved it! I guess.. And eventhough Solana was also crazy!! I do have to shout her out

“A woman didn’t do it to them though, YOU DID! All you had to do as a father was protect them. Make sure nothing like that ever happened to them the way it shouldn’t have happened to you.”

Cum Into The Dark by Mrs. Latoya Nicole

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: She and Mrs. Nicole indeed deserve a shout out for that! Because as parents you are supposed to be your children’s first protector, not their first victimizers nor the first gateway for predators to enter their lives.

SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Nicole: Ma’am, we all know that wrong is wrong! And still I thank you for making it explicitly clear, that wrong is wrong! From daddy dearest to child molesting Loraine!! And also Amir realizing that what happened to him was wrong!

And Lord brought the hilarity in each and every scene!

“I already ate, Thicky. The only other thing I want in my mouth is still sitting in the bed smelling like fish don’t fry in the kitchen, and beans don’t burn on the grill. Can you hurry your ass up, so I can sample this shit and at least know if you worth my stalking.”

Chrome: Black Metal Gang by Mrs. Connie Easton

Mrs. Connie Easton had a release this week as well, Chrome: Black Metal Gang. About BIKERS!

We meet Chrome, in charge of the Black Metal Gang, loves and protects his community and loved ones. And newly divorced Kosha, mother first, and business owner second.

First impression of eachother takes place in the alley behind Kosha’s shop.

The second was at the club!

“Little boy—” “You just got through dancing all on my dick, ain’t shit lil’ ‘bout me and you know it.”

Chrome: Black Metal Gang by Mrs. Connie Easton

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And that scene of them dancing ladies and gentlemen, would be where I folded!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Kosha however didnot!

SheReadsaLot: No Kosha was a bit….

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: She was stubborn! That’s the word you are looking for… Stubborn!!

SheReadsaLot: I was going to say hesitant. And I mean can you blame her? A husband living on your dime, starting another family, a daughter that was…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A daughter that was in need of something other than just a stern talking to!

SheReadsaLot: I would say in pain…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am you yourself said that the gentle parent in you would’ve gone to greener pastures if one of your children talked to you or their dad like that!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I mean I am all for the kids being open in their communication.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am stop being all respectable and tell them folks!

SheReadsaLot: Yeah, I will not be doing that..

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Read it for yourself and let me know you thoughts!

In His Shoes: Cubicle by Candlelight by Mrs. Amari Fumari

I picked up a read, In His Shoes: Cubicle by Candlelight, by new to me author Mrs. Amari Fumari.

This was supposed to be the love story of Ava and Malik, who meet in the office. However the love story takes a backseat to Ava’s journey of self-discovery. Ava is a divorced single mother working for an ad firm. She feels (and is) overlooked in the workplace.

Ava thinks that men have it easier, especially in the workplace

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: She isn’t exactly wrong!

SheReadsaLot: But she isn’t exactly right either!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now why would you say that?

SheReadsaLot: Because Ava CHOOSES to be silent!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now you know that office politics as a Black woman has an additional layer to it?

SheReadsaLot: I do, and her being obtuse to it and choosing to remain quiet letting others take credit for her hard work PMO!! And her indecisiveness, on basically every thing! Her poor decision making skills!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay, continue on!

Ava gets the chance to experience things from the male perspective thanks to some magic.

SheReadsaLot: And what does she do?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What did she do?

SheReadsaLot: Nothing!!! So many insights gained, but she only uses it to elevate her sexual skills!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So Ava triggered you?

SheReadsaLot: I mean… I had me some good laughs, the premise was intriguing… but Ava really had me like..

Shâhzâdeh: The Consortium Book Eight by Mrs. Dandridge Monroe

I was up till late after feeling triggered and saw that one of my faves Mrs. Dandridge Monroe had released book 8 in her The Consortium series. So I dove right on in!

And…

So the first thing I did when I woke up was continue the read!

And this is the first time that I’ll be doing this, my apologies in advance for those who are expecting me to tell you anything more than the following..

Because I love the history, the sociological aspects, the BLACKNESS of it all. This feels for US!

AND every single aspect that I’d want to discuss feels like an invitation that I don’t want to extend.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now Ma’am you do have to give them something at least!

SheReadsaLot: Okay Fine!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Here, dangit!

The daughter sneered … “The number of abortions that flow through the ghettos—” Vanya emptied the clip in a gun I didn’t even realize she was holding

Shâhzâdeh: The Consortium Book Eight by Mrs. Dandridge Monroe

SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Monroe: Ma’am my appreciation for your artistry and dedication to it grows immensely with each book you release AND this one has now taken the top spot in your catalogue for me!

Love’s Most Wanted by Mrs. Shvonne Latrice

I felt so blessed! Because another one of my faves, Mrs. Shvonne Latrice, released the same day, making sure that I didn’t fall in to a reading slum. Love’s Most Wanted, book 8 in Mrs. Latrice’s Crenshaw Kings series.

This was Unique’s story, the one with the two girlfriends, and Kabrina the one with the… AJ?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Remember, not too much now this just released!

What I loved the most about this book was the love and the camaraderie between them all! These people love and respect each other!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Just to make sure… You not including Aurora, Daisy, AJ, Zoisa, Devant, Kyle, or Tamira right?

SheReadsaLot: Do you even have to ask?? I mean what even was AJ?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Yes, I don’t know how Kabrina even reached the place to get embarrassed again, because after seeing my man jump of a yacht at the behest of another man I would’ve…

SheReadsaLot: Dried right on up? Be closed for business? Indefinitely?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: All of the above!

SheReadsaLot: But she didn’t know any better, I mean look at her role models! And when she did know better?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: She didn’t look back not one time!

SheReadsaLot:

Week Closer

Sweet Consent by Mrs. Lady Marie

Closing out my week was Mrs. Lady Marie with her latest release Sweet Consent, a novella. The last book in her Sugared and Spiced series which explores the dynamics in sugar daddy/mommy/baby relationships.

This one was about Phillip, the last of the friend group. Phillip is…

Let me let Phillip tell you!

“I just—  I know my extraordinary personality can be a bit much”

Sweet Consent by Mrs. Lady Marie

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: That feels like…

SheReadsaLot: I mean

Was it possible I’d gone as far as to instruct my staff not to let any of them near my office and to give away our reserved table since there was no way in hell I’d be letting them use it without me?
Again, yes.
Shit, maybe I really was the drama.

Sweet Consent by Mrs. Lady Marie

BUT! Raegyn? FMC, was more than equipped to handle him however!

And just like that we’ve ended another week. Looking forward to what next week will bring, and hope to see you there!
