Starting off like always! By taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.
I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art.
And

So this week was… unexpected….
As you all know I usually read/post a book a day..
This time work intervened, even more than usual, with my reading.
I have been working overtime and on my off days, and in stead of working in solitude I’m peopling y’all… P-E-O-P-L-I-N-G! Meaning most of my energy is spent on that.
So…

Week Opener

I opened this week with Mrs. Netra Antionette‘s, Body Count.
Body count? Nah. Character development.
Where Mrs. Antionette with this book gives society a read.
A R-E-A-D!
Growing up, it was always, “Men like this; men want that,”—aunties preaching like they had some secret to purity. “Men value women who don’t give it up.” “Be careful who you let touch you, baby, ‘cause you gon’ carry that forever.” Judgment disguised as wisdom, and I ate it up.
SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Antionette:

We get this read through Rivah, FMC, school teacher by day.
“Miss R, I’m gonna tell my mama my booty helps me twerk.” I blinked. “Tell her Miss R said it’s called your gluteus maximus… and it helps you dance.”
Antionette, Netra. Body Count. Kindle Edition.
and blogger by night.
I stripped off every expectation they ever tried to stuff down my throat about what a “good woman” should be. The way they tried to braid shame into our hair and stitch guilt into our panties.
Antionette, Netra. Body Count. Kindle Edition.
Who is reclaiming her body and narrative, one body at a time.
We have Kross, MMC, who has a job to do…
I worship that p*ssy. That little pretty p*ssy you got that moans when I just look at it.
Antionette, Netra. Body Count. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot:

The men Rivah encounters, and the way she reads them?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Rivah’s tongue was vicious! I mean TMT, Whitney Houston?!
SheReadsaLot: Vicious, but very much accurate!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what can we tell the audience about this here read without giving to much away?
SheReadsaLot to Audience: We had ourselves some eye-opening moments, because like we started out saying… This was a read on society and how they treat and view a woman’s body! Kross had us swooning, we were cheering for Rivah, there were some surprises, laughs and some much needed finding out!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Cynthia?

SheReadsaLot: Cynthia!
SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Signing this one off with a message!
But, choose you. Even when he smells like potential. Even when your legs want to betray you. Even when he calls you late at night talking about “just come talk.” You’re not the one who needs to prove her worth—he’s the one who needs to realize it before he loses access. Because we don’t do reruns around here. Body Count? Nah. Character development.
Antionette, Netra. Body Count. Kindle Edition.

I followed my read up with Mrs. Lakia‘s latest release, A Million Boss Kisses. The spin-off to Mrs. Lakia’s Passenger Princess.
The story about Marissa, FMC, over 40, filed for divorce..
I’ll die before I pretend to be happy next to a nigga as disrespectful as you!”
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
And Yaseer, MMC, late 30s, and locked in on Marissa first meet..
Her eyes didn’t even meet mine, and I had to look down to make eye contact with her. Usually, I would’ve hurled a veiled threat that I’d make good on later, but I swallowed my words when we connected piercing gazes. For a brief moment, I admired her dark brown face. Fucking perfection.
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
And sticks to her like glue..
“Well shit, who taking us out? I’m going too,”
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.

We loved seeing Marissa get her well deserved loving. Because what Quinten was giving her, was most certainly not it. Quinten during the divorce?
“Did your father encourage you to move like that over this last year?” Quinten’s dick went soft, and he pulled his boxers back up. His silence spoke volumes and provided me the answer I needed. “You not scared of nobody but your fuck ass daddy. I guess you’ll let him ruin your life until that COPD takes him out.”
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Quinten, was most definitely not a man!
SheReadsaLot: Sure wasn’t!
I stood there … thinking of how I could fix this shit because I’d had enough of waiting around for my father to give me direction. His direction was the sole reason my life was in shambles.
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Talking about his direction like you aren’t a whole grown &ss man out here!
SheReadsaLot: Very unbecoming behavior that!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Marissa did have herself some quirks right?
SheReadsaLot: She did…
Thankful that Yaseer’s mother was drop dead gorgeous. I was so smitten by him that I let him slip through the ugly mama check right after I created my new rule.
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I mean was it even valid anymore? Marissa entered her perimenopause. It’s not like she can still get pregnant…. Right?
SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: Let’s close this one out, shall we?
SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Lakia: Ma’am you know I love your writing… So just a small… very small request? Vincent?
“It don’t take a nigga shit to jump in that monkey suit, and drop that ski down and make that choppa do what it do,” Vincent rapped Plies lyrics, pulling a ski mask over his head and slapping one against my chest.
Lakia. A Million Boss Kisses: An Urban Romance Standalone. Lakia Presents, LLC. Kindle Edition.
Yes, Please?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You’re forgetting something Ma’am!
SheReadsaLot: I Did! Quinten is a punk!

I got influenced again, this time by Miss Lady. I think it was in one of her stories. So I picked up For Pucking Keeps by Mrs. D. Sparks.
About Alexis, FMC, author, struggling with her mental health, and some not so healthy coping mechanisms
Avoiding facing my fears, and running when it all got to be too much. Oh yeah, the list goes on and on. Anxiety and depression are two very debilitating beasts, and I was learning to slay them day by day.
Sparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
Her writing gets impacted, however her next book will be a hockey romance. Meaning research!
Enter Tor, MMC, captain and Center for The Seattle Vipers.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So watcha thinking?
SheReadsaLot: I was a bit miffed…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A bit miffed?
SheReadsaLot to Audience: See what had happened was….
Alexis and Tor hit it off! I mean they really hit it off!
“You’re beautiful, Alexis. You’re beautiful and you’re mine, baby. Now get over here and sit on your throne, Queen.”
Sparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
Their situation works! And it works well.
… none of it matters when it works, when it’s true. We are both honest, and that’s what makes our situation work. Truth.
Sparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Were they honest though?

SheReadsaLot: ….
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Were they honest though?
SheReadsaLot: I mean one of them was honest… And truthful… The other?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So you always have something to say when it’s the man at fault… Speak up!
SheReadsaLot: Now why are you forcing me to say something…
SheReadsaLot to Audience: I mean everybody experiences and deals differently with anxiety and depression. Avoidance of the truth can very much be a part of that.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now please stop acting like the truth is running from you as well!
SheReadsaLot: I mean I’m not exactly lying! I’m just not as forthcoming about what happened…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Just like a certain someone!
But there’s anxiety as well. Somewhere in the dark parts of my mind I ready myself to mourn what I stand to lose because I haven’t come clean to Tor. I’ve chosen to dig in my heels and hold on to him for dear life, burying my head in the sand for good measure.
Sparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: Let’s just say that fear can make you do or not do some very strange things at times..

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: If you were Tor…. How would you’ve reacted?
SheReadsaLot: Good thing for Alexis is… I’m not Tor!
His ability to forgive, to look past my shortcomings, because I have a lot, and love me completely, absolutely, is something I never thought I would have or deserve.
Sparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what is it you’re saying here?
SheReadsaLot: I’m saying that the ending would’ve been different… Because…
“Look. You did what you thought was best for you.”
Sparks. D. ForSparks, D. For Pucking Keeps: A Hockey Romance (The Seattle Vipers Series Book 1). Wells Publishing. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So she was a bit selfish, but being selfish can be good at times, can’t it?
SheReadsaLot to Audience: And again I say… Good thing for Alexis is that I’m not Tor.

The Blake University : HBCU Chronicles collab started, and I started it completely out of order.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You still a bit annoyed by that huh?
SheReadsaLot: Ma’am you know I like reading my books in order?!

So I enthusiastically picked up Mrs. Natisha Raynor‘s book, Brynleigh & A.Z.
About Brynleigh, FMC, working towards her goal of starting her own business . With her taking classes to achieve her goal, she needs to supplement her income some kind of way… and it isn’t dancing…

Don’t go and mistake her side-profession with her integrity, and humanity however. Like A.Z. (MMC, college student) did when he met Brynleigh on campus.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: He was harsh in his assessment of her!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: He was trying to look out for his little sister however!
SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: He get’s to know her though!
SheReadsaLot: He sure did!
females like Brynleigh … that had boundaries and weren’t letting men handle them any kind of way for the sake of being chosen.
Raynor, Natisha. Blake University : HBCU Chronicles: Brynleigh & A.Z.. Kindle Edition.

Once I got corrected (after having finished)..
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You needed to finish it huh?
SheReadsaLot: Now you know I can’t put down a book once I start it, and am invested already!

I picked up the first book in the Blake University : HBCU Chronicles collab. Being Archer & Destiny by Mrs. Masterpiece.
An Insta Love story, of Archer, MMC, and Destiny, FMC.
Who are both dealing with a lot. Destiny’s dealings are visible, as she is a survivor of gun violence resulting in her being an ambulatory wheelchair user. Archer’s however aren’t visible.
They meet on campus when Archer sees something happening that doesn’t sit well with him.
It infuriated him that people laughed and recorded the disabled instead of assisting them.
Masterpiece, Authoress. Blake University HBCU Chronicles: Archer & Destiny. Masterpiece Presents. Kindle Edition.
And from there an unexpected love story begins.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We liked this one, didn’t we? So two for two?
SheReadsaLot: We did, indeed two for two.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: We got a FMC who isn’t afraid to tell you what she will and won’t accept.
“Don’t do that.” Destiny’s mouth clamped shut soon as the words left her mouth. “Do what?” He asked curiously. “Cut me off when I’m speaking. It seems like you have a habit of doing that to people. I don’t like it.”
Masterpiece, Authoress. Blake University HBCU Chronicles: Archer & Destiny. Masterpiece Presents. Kindle Edition.
And a MMC who sees past the surface.
“You let me hold your whole world in my hands weeks ago. I want to feed you and be what you need. I want to always make you feel special. I’m not sure how to do all of this ‘cause it’s new. But I listen to you, Destiny. I’m learning you, too.” He admitted.
Masterpiece, Authoress. Blake University HBCU Chronicles: Archer & Destiny. Masterpiece Presents. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I mean what’s not to like?
SheReadsaLot: Archer’s parents!

Week Closer

And the last book I truly got to post about before work intervened.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You really had a rough go of it huh?
SheReadsaLot: Ma’am! I’m peopling! P-E-O-P-L-I-N-G!

Mrs. O’Sharra‘s, Talon & Teniece. A short Black Womens Fiction.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We can’t actually call this one a romance, can we?
SheReadsaLot: No we can’t, and I’m thankful for it! Because Talon?
Before she could fully make it to the opposite side of the threshold, she paused and looked over her shoulder, “You don’t need to apologize, I see where you get it from now. Like mother like son. Your world doesn’t feel real unless somebody’s watching. I always assumed that money automatically meant happiness, but I guess it’s possible to have a fat bank account and be miserable.”
O’Sharra. BLAKE UNIVERSITY HBCU CHRONICLES: TALON & TENIECE. T’ANN MARIE PRESENTS LLC. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Back up some, don’t we need to tell them who these people are?
SheReadsaLot:

Teniece, FMC, college student, psychology major. In a financial bind, due to no fault of her own. Finds herself part of a scripted/unscripted reality tv show.
They said when rich people got bored, they played with people lives, and the fact that they wanted future doctors, lawyers, and real estate moguls to be running around on camera fucking, fighting, and acting like Flavor of College Hill Baddies annoyed me.
O’Sharra. BLAKE UNIVERSITY HBCU CHRONICLES: TALON & TENIECE. T’ANN MARIE PRESENTS LLC. Kindle Edition.
And Talon, MMC, college student, business major, finds himself stuck living the life his parents have written for him.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what we doing here?
SheReadsaLot: This read had some good lessons in it!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Sure did, and we loved how empowered Teniece became through her experiences
SheReadsaLot: We sure did!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So how we doing Talon?
SheReadsaLot: He picked up the pen?
SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: He picked up the pen!
And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! Off to see what next week will bring!
