Week in Review – W33

I’m back with my scheduled programming. So starting off like I’m used to. By taking out a small amount of time, to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.

I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art. And.

I’m getting back into my reading flow. Apparently my brain hasn’t caught up to the fact that I can read to my hearts content again.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am, you do remember that you still have a full-time job right? A job you very much need to support your book buying, and account for the shipping costs?

SheReadsaLot: Let’s get into my stats for this week…

Week Opener

The Mortal Affairs by Mrs. Granger

I opened the week with Mrs. Granger‘s release, The Mortal Affairs. Mrs. Granger started out with letting us know that this was not about the Drew Collins University.

This book does NOT have anything to do with our girls at Drew Collins University. There is no Quan, no Asha, no Namir…No school adventures. Nothing. If you are waiting to get back in school and would rather hold off, I encourage you to wait for the next book after this where we will pick up after book three.

The Mortal Affairs by Mrs. Granger

And even though this wasn’t about the Drew Collins University per say…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: It wrapped up so many mysteries

…”It’s actually sad how all of this started from a witch who was jealous and in love with a bum.”

Granger. The Mortal Affairs (The Secret World of Maggie Grey Book Series) (p. 484). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot: The secrets, the love square, because when it involves 4 it’s no longer a triangle.  The lengths a woman scorned will go through.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But we started from the end, maybe we should start with the characters?

SheReadsaLot: Let’s do that shall we…

We are introduced to Himora Clarke, FMC, who is a bit of everything. But she classifies herself as Fae. Himora has some quirks that accompany her beautiful mind, and has cataloged them all for your convience. She herself will let you know that she has difficulties picking up social ques.

“In the fae community, it is called Eclipsed Syndrome,” I said. “A condition where we struggle with verbal and social cues as it relates to interacting with those around me. I developed my speech later on–––”

Granger. The Mortal Affairs (The Secret World of Maggie Grey Book Series). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: For her difficulty picking up social ques, she sure knew people well! How they work, what they need!

SheReadsaLot:

Himora is also the head of the Mortal Affairs Department.

Mortal affairs deals with humans…their habits…keeping track of content to put online about us, and our world.

Granger. The Mortal Affairs (The Secret World of Maggie Grey Book Series). Kindle Edition.

Then we have Trevor Coleman, MMC, the “Golden Child” as head of the GRIOT.

“GRIOT, Government Reconnaissance and Investigations of Other Worldly Threats is what pays the bills and keeps the lights on in this place. The agents here are trained for research, trained to fight, and capture. They are our priority.

Granger. The Mortal Affairs (The Secret World of Maggie Grey Book Series). Kindle Edition.

Who, after a lot of warnings, receives a temporary demotion placing him as a subordinate in Himora‘s department.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: We loved ourselves some Himora!

Audience to Audience: Why is she talking about Himora? Aren’t we talking about Trevor right now?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: You know what it is? I can’t stand people that are full of themselves, and selfish… Trevor fit that bill very well!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now now, he wasn’t all the way bad!

SheReadsaLot: Okay, okay, when he committed, I could definitely see it.

SheReadsaLot: Now Adrias though! I definitely saw his appeal!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am!! He hardly spoke!!

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: That’s enough about that part. Tell them what you thought!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: This story was everything to me. I stayed up till late all giddy, just so I could finish this book. Just know when Mrs. Granger tells you to trust the process? Trust the MOFO process!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Isn’t this technically a why choose though?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And Mrs. Granger gave us a teeny tiny glimpse into what is to come!

“This is already starting off ghetto,” she complained before smiling. “I can’t wait.”

., Granger. The Mortal Affairs (The Secret World of Maggie Grey Book Series) (p. 513). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: Same Asha, Same!

D.N.F. by Mr. Navi’ Robins

I stayed in the fantastical realm, and picked up Mr. Navi’ RobinsD.N.F. next.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: This was one of the books you were looking forward to as well!

SheReadsaLot: I mean why wouldn’t I?! Did you see the cover? Did you hear the music? And the content? It’s about books, the book community, a book reviewer that doesn’t mince her words, and MAGIC! I mean what was not there to look forward to?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So after that geeking out moment, brought to you by SheReadsaLot… maybe you can tell them a bit more about the main character?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: But let me tell you!

Britt is a book reviewer who shares her opinion freely, while not mincing her words. Plot missing? She will let you know!

Using ChatGPT as your Beta Reader?

I posted screenshots with the caption “Your beta reader was ChatGPT, huh?”

D.N.F. by Mr. Navi’ Robins

She will call you out!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

Sometimes maybe a bit harsh in her delivery…

“If you want to read a book where every woman dies, cries, or gives dome in a Popeyes parking lot, this is the one.”

D.N.F. by Mr. Navi’ Robins

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Maybe a bit harsh…

SheReadsaLot: But was she wrong though?

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

Britt has built her self a reputation, making sure that people will think twice about playing on her top! Responding with racism or misogyny.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And if they did, they got exactly what they deserved!

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And I mean when reading stuff like …

“My throbbing member glistened like midnight oil as she moaned, ‘Put your wand of justice in my velvet chamber of secrets.’”

Robins, Navi’ . D.N.F.: Do Not Finish. NorthShore Publishing Inc. . Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot: BOOK OFFICERS!!!!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Some writing does provoke certain justified responses indeed…

But… what do you do when the tables turn? After being warned by your familiar, Lovecraft?

Let me start by saying this: I told her he wasn’t shit.

Robins, Navi’ . D.N.F.: Do Not Finish. NorthShore Publishing Inc. . Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to Britt: Lovecraft warned you!

But nooo. Miss Ten-Million-Followers-And-A-Fat-Ass had to go get spiritually d*cked down and forget every damn lesson from coven school.

Robins, Navi’ . D.N.F.: Do Not Finish. NorthShore Publishing Inc. . Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: It got a bit rough out there, I mean there was a literary fight!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Who knew that there were so many badly written books out there?

SheReadsaLot: Ma’am don’t act dense right now. We knew, it’s just that we figured out our preferences better! I think at least …

SheReadsaLot to Audience: D.N.F. will offer you a lot of laughs between these well written pages… I do have to warn you though. Because there is a particular heinous scene where someone is turned into some cutlery!

Suddenly, I was stainless steel. STUCK. IN. A. NAPKIN. ROLL. I watched a man pick me up, lick me, and then dip me in expired ranch dressing.

Robins, Navi’ . D.N.F.: Do Not Finish. NorthShore Publishing Inc. . Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Shouldn’t you tell them how they got into that situation though?

SheReadsaLot: They’ll find out when they pick this gem up… But hold’on one second.. Because this has to be said!

SheReadsaLot to Britt: Cornelius? Now I’m not judging here… But a Cornelius?

Britt to Audience:

SheReadsaLot: Let me channel LoveCraft for a second

Only For Me by Mrs. K.C. Mills

And this week just continued to keep on giving, because Mrs. K.C. Mills had a release as well, Only For Me.

Mrs. Mills came out the gate warning us on different subjects.

If you cannot handle a man who is rough around the edges, fiercely protective, and a little reckless… Do not read this book.

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me (p. 3). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Mrs. Mills is telling you, not too much on her man now!

SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Mills: Ma’am I heard you!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What about the parentals though?

SheReadsaLot:

… sharing blood doesn’t grant you a pass on disrespect. As much as it would be amazing to find resolve with parents and family members, sometimes you have to leave them where they are in order to protect your peace. All relationships don’t deserve resolution.

F#ck Omiri and Makari’s mothers…and not respectfully!

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me (p. 3). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So she said, that’s a free for all?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Not too fast now, first introduce the audience to the characters…

SheReadsaLot: You are right, you are right!

Only for Me is an Urban Sports Romance where we get to know Makari, FMC,

She was a freelance social media crisis manager. I vaguely remembered her explaining that she worked to clean up images when athletes said dumb shit.

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me. Kindle Edition.

and Omiri, MMC, NFL player just off of a Super Bowl win… Not interested in children.

“I fucked her once, in the bathroom at a club. I came down her throat, not in her pussy. That kid isn’t mine. Even if it was, I would write her a check. I don’t want kids.”

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Remember that Mrs. Mills said that Omiri could be a bit reckless.

SheReadsaLot:

Makari hears that viral statement on the day she finds out that her one night stand turned into a permanent reminder. And runs with it.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: He finds out though!

SheReadsaLot: That he did indeed!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Mrs. Mills also told us to go in to this story without expectations. As these people are not us, and maybe don’t share our same experiences!

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: We listened!

Which made this story even better! We also found out that we had to add in another parental to Mrs. Mills statements about the parents.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We sure had to! Because if you hear the mother of your child, your wife tell your kid…

All I could do was catch a football. She literally said that to me once when I asked why she never showed me the same love she had for O’Rion.

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot: And you sit your #$$ there, and don’t say nothing?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And still have the audacity to have your hand out for some money?

SheReadsaLot: You kind Sir, are not excrement either!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… Excrement?

SheReadsaLot: You know I decided to try out some more PG language!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So dung, ordure, fecal matter or even waste, weren’t viable options for you?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am I just can’t with you sometimes!

Audience to Audience: Why is she talking like they aren’t one and the same? And what did she think about this read?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: You do have a point. Let me tell you what I thought about Mrs. Mills book.

I loved it, this love story is distinctly their own. Yes they make choices that you most probably wouldn’t make. But they did what worked for them. And in the end isn’t that what matters?

“This is me, baby. Anything’s possible when I have you.”

Mills, K.C.. Only For Me (p. 385). Kindle Edition.

Merciless Obession by Mrs. Tay Mo’Nae

Mrs. Tay Mo’Nae had a release as well, Merciless Obession, book two in The Bloodline series.

In the first book we get introduced to the Tavarez family. This book centers Ezra Tavarez, MMC, lawyer, who loves differently.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: There you go again!

SheReadsaLot: I mean … does it really matter that he is slightly obsessive?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: So maybe it’s wise to read Mrs. Mo’Nae’s triggger warning before reading this book. But in my defense… I did say that this is a dark romance… Let me tell you about the FMC.

Ziora, FMC, a hacker / investigative blogger. Who happens to be the one blogging about the Tavarez family, with her focus on Judge Tavarez.

This investigation lands her on the radar of Ezra, who has found his new obsession. And she?

Ziora:

I also know you will always go above and beyond for me without caring what anyone has to say and I love that.

Mo’Nae, Tay . Merciless Obsession (The Bloodline Book 2). Tay Mo’Nae Presents. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: They really were made for each other. Weren’t they?

SheReadsaLot: They sure were!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Did you enjoy this read?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And on a more serious note. Please take care of your mental. Because when Mrs. Mo’Nae tells you it is a dark romance? She is saying that with her whole chest!

Safest With You by Mrs. Jen Elle

I was in need for some lighter reading, and decided to pick up Safest With You by Mrs. Jen Elle. Who delivered the right amount of lightness I was in need off.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: Now what did I do?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Armond murdered three men in front of Brandy before they even had their first date!

SheReadsaLot: Like I said… Some lightness! And you’re mentioning names as if I already introduced the characters? Let’s get back to some order in this house!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

Safest With You is about Brandy, FMC, Yoga instructor, who’s been trying to divorce her abusive husband for over a year.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Don’t worry he finds his match!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: He’s a nuisance for far too long though!

SheReadsaLot: Even one page would’ve been too long for us though, abusers should be dealt with swiftly in our book!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

When Brandy goes on a weekend trip to Puerto Rico with her friends she meets Armond.

Armond, MMC, a billionaire. Who happens to be the owner of the resort they are staying in.

One look is shared between them, and they fall hard for each other.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You told them this is an Insta Love story right?

SheReadsaLot: I didn’t, but my audience is smart and based on the description I just gave? They already know.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But back to those people he killed, before even having had their first date.

SheReadsaLot: He really went hard for his woman didn’t he?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… Again… They weren’t even together yet!

SheReadsaLot: He showed her how he was coming behind her, didn’t he?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: And then there was that helicopter scene?!

Once we made our first loop and seemed to steady out, I unbuckled my harness and kneeled before her. My hand met her thigh and pulled her legs apart. My mouth was on her p*ssy before she could ask any questions.

Elle, Jen. Safest With You. KMP. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So I guess that means we enjoyed this read right?

SheReadsaLot:

Week Closer

AWAKENING by Mrs. C.M. Barnes

And to close out my week I picked up AWAKENING by Mrs. C.M. Barnes, an erotica with a contemporary romance spin on it.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Yes Ma’am, let your audience know that you like a bit of plot with your erotica as well!

And Mrs. Barnes most certainly delivered on that part.

Because Mrs. Barnes gave me moments like this…

“Don’t ever apologize for taking what you need from me,” he gritted as he held my throat, … “You need my dick? Please take it. Need to fuck my face? Ride it. You need my money? Spend it. You need my attention? Interrupt whatever has it and TAKE IT,”

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel (p. 63). Kindle Edition.

And this …

“Look at you taking that d*ck in both holes like a nasty little slut,” Knox praised as her body jerked in pleasure.

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel (p. 180). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: OMG, she did say that she was going to give us DP in the next book. But to actually see it on page?

To then balance it out with Quotables like these …

“We were raised thinking love had limits. That pleasure had rules. And if it didn’t fit neatly inside that box, then it was wrong, but as I’m learning, that’s not true. Not when there’s trust. Not when there’s clarity.”

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel. Kindle Edition.

Showing people being seen and accepted for who they are …

“You’re dating Maverick… and a woman?” “Yes, ma,” I said, “The three of us are together. It’s real, it’s good, and it works.” There was a beat of silence before my dad chimed in, “Well damn, son. We always knew you had a big heart, but this is some next-level sharing.”

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel. Kindle Edition.

Showing people speaking and standing up for themselves.

“If this show of love, support, and remorse is short-lived until we’re in the company of your husband, then I’d rather you keep it. From this moment forward, you have to love me out loud, protect my heart and mind fiercely, and be the mother I always deserved, or else it’ll be another twenty-six years before you see me again.”

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel (p. 134). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: That’s a true showing of love there for me!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What about the parentals though? Because if I remember correctly, you were ready to get violent behind their treatment of their son!

SheReadsaLot: I guess they turned out alright or whatever…

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Let me leave you with this quote from Mrs. Barnes Awakening that spoke to me.

“You never have to thank me for valuing you, seeing you, it’s what you deserve from any and everyone in your life.”

Barnes, C.M.. AWAKENING: A Winston Hills Novel. Kindle Edition

And just in case it wasn’t clear beforehand, yes I thoroughly enjoyed this one as well! I mean there was DP!!

And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! Off to see what next week will bring!
