Week Opener

The Last Substitution by Mrs. Elle Madearis

I opened the week with Mrs. Elle Madearis‘, The Last Substitution, book 1 in The Complexity of Love Series.

About Anissa, FMC, CEO of a very successful sports management firm, single mother to the number one and two NBA draft picks, and closed off to love.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am you have to be specific here. Because Anissa loves her kids and her true friends. It’s just that she hasn’t been open to romantic love!

SheReadsaLot: You’re right, let me address that part!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Closed off to love because her best friend, who Anissa had a very co-dependent relationship with and who was also more, did not uphold his promises.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Shouldn’t you let the audience know that Anissa addresses her co-dependency through therapy?

SheReadsaLot: But she doesn’t only address her co-dependency through therapy. There was some heavy stuff that happened in her life!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So you’re saying, we won’t be giving it all away?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Then we get to her Ex-Best friend!

Retired NFL player Khalil, MMC, sports agent, divorced, with full custody of his daughter. And very much wants Anissa back in his life.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: After he forced her out of it!

“I broke us because of my pride and ego.”

SheReadsaLot to Khalil: And because of your dangalang!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I think his dangalang was his pride and ego…

SheReadsaLot: You could have a point there! Because it did a whole lot of damage.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Maybe we shouldn’t tell them what type of damage he actually did?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But Khalil went to therapy to deal with his trauma informed responses! And his therapist was very helpful in guiding Khalil to get the love of his life back!

“…maybe a softer approach to Anissa could help you reach your goal,”

SheReadsaLot: But for advice to be helpful, the one getting the advice should be open to receiving it as well!

Dr. Parker threw his hands in the air in disagreement with my plans, but it was too late. I was going to get my happily ever after by any means necessary.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Let me go into my recommendation.

If you decide to pick up this read please be aware that this read addresses different types of trauma, which inform the decisionmaking and character of both Anissa and Khalil. BUT they, Anissa and Khalil, work together!

SheReadsaLot: When they don’t let pride and outside influences get in the way that is!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And we’re continuing the series I assume?

SheReadsaLot: You already know that I set my calendar notice for the 19th! Because Malcolm and Marquise have a story to tell!!

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: And we’re going to listen to them tell it!

Audiobook – The Hitchhiker by Mrs. Tanisha Stewart

I picked up Mrs. Tanisha Stewart‘s latest Audio release of The Hitchhiker next. Let me tell you right now, ALL that I said the first time around when I read this?

I was giving ratings still at that time, and it was a 5 star for me, with all the stress it induced!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But we love ourselves some stress in our reads!

SheReadsaLot: Yes, it’s like the spice of our book lives!

Having said that, all of my feelings got bigger with this re-read. Mrs. J.R. Mason‘s narration did what needed to be done!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: By upping the suspense with the addition of music and sound effects!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: That young man… and what he went through?

SheReadsaLot: She actually brought tears to my eyes with the flash backs!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: The way he dealt with his trauma though?

SheReadsaLot:

And then there were the times I actually had to get away from the book, because the suspense got too suspenseful and vivid.

Flashback to SheReadsaLot while audioreading The Hitchhiker:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what are you saying?

SheReadsaLot: Loved this the first time around, and loved it even more the second time around!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And your thoughts on Vanessa?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Do we need to talk to Mrs. Stewart again about chapter 31? Because that Delilah?

SheReadsaLot: C-R-A-Z-Y! Impossible that women out there are acting like that!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Remember that Sinners and Stardust bookevent?

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

The Oath by Mrs. T.M. Richardson

Twin came with a poly rec by new to me author Mrs. T.M. Richardson.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And you know when Twin recommends a poly romance/erotica it’s about to be a good read!

SheReadsaLot:

We get to know Tatum, (FMC English Professor), in her final days with her husband Franklin who has been battling cancer.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I’ll let you know right now… He loses that battle

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

But before he leaves the earthly realm, he makes sure his three best friends;

  • Myles a divorced attorney
  • Deacon a man with many talents and just as many dalliances
  • and Cassidy with a surprising occupation

take an oath.

… an oath to take care of her, which included fvcking her out of her misery.

The Oath by Mrs. T.M. Richardson

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And that’s exactly what they did!

SheReadsaLot:

So yes, I very much enjoyed this one. Consenting Grown people sharing their love abundantly without conforming to the norm, and/or societal pressures?

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And Mrs. Richardson gave us two things we love in a poly relationship with multiple men and a woman!

SheReadsalot: And what are those again?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You already know that it was the DP and the Lucky Pierre!

SheReadsaLot: I knew!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am! Tell the audience your thoughts about this read!

SheReadsaLot: I’ll them after talking about The Offer!

The Offer by Mrs. T.M. Richardson

So I told you these were grown folks right, forty and up? So when I saw that the next book, The Offer, in this series by Mrs. T.M. Richardson featured Alisa?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We just had to stay in the Secrets series for a while longer! Because Alisa?

SheReadsaLot: Bold, outspoken, unapologetic in her desires, and willing to act on them Alisa?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: We didn’t have a choice, we love our FMC just like that!

Alisa gets an offer from an under the radar couple;

  • Christophe, politician, running for senator
  • and Kadeem, retired NFL player, just took on a new position as a sports presenter

who love each other dearly. And have always wanted to share that love with a permanent third.

SheReadsaLot: And that’s what they got!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Not without it’s challenges though!

SheReadsaLot: I mean he was running for senator… and you know how judgmental people are of things that aren’t conforming to the norm?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Is it jealousy or resentment? Resentment because they themselves have always lived to appease/conform to the norm even though it didn’t fit them? Afraid to live their lives for them with consenting adults?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Not on this post however! Tell them your thoughts about these two books.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I love how these grown folks decided to live their lives in a way that fit them, with consent from their partners. Again, not saying that this was without it’s challenges, because everywhere where unapologetic consenting love, happiness and joy resides?

SheReadsaLot:

Week Closer

In His Hands by Mrs. Tanisha Stewart

I closed out my week with a rec from Miss Lady. Bringing me back to Mrs. Tanisha Stewart, this time with a Christian Thriller, In His Hands.

About Tony, MMC. Newly married Tony is a man with a troubled past, now walking in his faith as a minister-in-training.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: This man is a shining example of turning your life around.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: He really did! And is trying hard to get his twin brother to join him on his new journey

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And then the unthinkable happens!

SheReadsaLot:

When I picked up this book, I knew it would be a short read. And I was unaware how the thriller part would come into play.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We found out though!

SheReadsaLot:

Because after Tony goes through what he goes through?

Something shifted within me. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it happened. Small. Subtle. But there.

Stewart, Tanisha. In His Hands. B. Love Publications. Kindle Edition.

Leading to the question, how does your faith fare when it’s tested?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Tony finds out!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So that’s it? Nothing more to say?

SheReadsaLot: That’s it! The audience already knows that I enjoyed it! I mean it was low angst, something I needed with my mood and anxiety all out of hand. It makes you think, and ponder.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: …

And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! Off to see if next week will be kinder to me and my reading!
