Week in Review – W39

Starting off like always! By taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.

I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art. And.

My week went…. unexpected.

It started out with sleepless night. Which resulted in me being tired, which then impacted my mood, which led to my reading being less than I’m accustomed to.

Week Opener

The Hostage by Mrs. Samyra Alexander and performed by Mrs. J.R. Mason

I started late this week with my posts. My mood was acting up again, and I was in need of a read to get me all the way back. Enter Mrs. J.R. Mason, who asked if I had already read The Hostage by Mrs. Samyra Alexander, and if I was interested in the audio version?

SheReadsaLot: The pettiness of it all, as if we’d ever say no to that?!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I have to say that it did feel like Mrs. Mason was calling you out of your name a bit! I’m not saying you should feel a way…

SheReadsaLot: I won’t feel a way, won’t have me on the bad side of Mrs. Mason’s pen

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

So I dove on the opportunity, and let me tell you!

This collab is diabolical!!

Because here we have Mrs. Alexander’s pen right, and you already know how I love her pen if you’ve read my previous reviews on the books I’ve read by her. But if you don’t? Just a quick reminder.

The way Mrs. Alexander attacks the psychological parts of her thrillers is something to behold. She holds up a mirror to the psyche and character of her characters, and in doing so lets you introspect as well.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We do love gaining insight in to the psyche of characters, and learning more about mental health!

SheReadsaLot:

And then she added in the narration by Mrs. J.R. Mason, whose narration style is one of the few I particularly enjoy because of the immersive feel.

So now we have the psyche, the characters, the story, and the performance got added in?

* The Hostage *

The way I wanted to jump up and talk some sense into all of the characters?

SheReadsaLot to Brandy: Because how do you mean, you don’t like your intelligence being questioned when you make decisions without the use of any sort of intelligence?

SheReadsaLot to Tom. How do you not acknowledge that your sexuality is at least fluid if you’re out here collecting booty as if you are completing a collection?

SheReadsaLot to Tina: How do you mean you are a decent person when you..

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Hold up now, they explicitly asked for spoiler free reviews! Save the rest for the DM’s

SheReadsaLot: You’re right, you’re right! But I had questions y’all!

Because where did Mrs. Alexander get her inspiration from!

SheReadsaLot: You know how I feel about Horror right?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Yup, either too fake or too realistic!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And even though this is a Halloween psychological Thriller it leaned a bit into horror.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Wouldn’t be surprised if this was grabbed from the headlines or history!

SheReadsaLot: And still I’m side eyeing Mrs. Alexander for the way she wrote these characters, the story, the narrative. And if that wasn’t enough? Adding in Mrs. Mason!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Diabolical I tell ya, D-I-A-B-O-L-I-C-A-L

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot: And we were there for all of it!

With this read you will get questionable characters, mystery, suspense, horror, laughs (my humor can be a bit dark sometimes 👀)  all wrapped in a Halloween feel.

The Echo of Forever by Mrs. Asia Monique

You know how I said that I needed to veer a bit away from the romance? But then Mrs. Asia Monique dropped The Echo of Forever?

A romance with dark themes!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You really didn’t have a choice actually!

SheReadsaLot: No choice!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And you know Mrs. Monique always brings in some intrigue, mystery and suspense as well.

SheReadsaLot: Mrs. Monique do be knowing how to balance it all out just right doesn’t she?

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Let me tell you all a bit about Echo and Forever!

Echo, MMC, King of the Rejectors.

Forever, FMC, Broker of the Collective. Her next hit? Echo!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: That’s all I’m giving you!

Just know that you are in for a R-I-D-E! That is magical, that is deep, that will make you think about society and it’s ways.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Mrs. Monique let us know from jump that the society she wrote has some parallels with the current state of the world!

SheReadsaLot: Or has it always been that way, and it’s only now that people are noticing?

Mrs. Monique is giving us complex characters, passion between the pages, a love that is forever.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A love that is worth fighting for!

SheReadsaLot:

Mrs. Monique gave us small cameo’s from the Mafia Misfits, action, and a lot to look forward to.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay, now wrap your sentiments up in three words or less!

SheReadsaLot:

Anything Necessary For Her by Mrs. Shvonne Latrice

And the day arrived that I was hesitantly anticipating. Mrs. Shvonne Latrice released Anything Necessary For HerBanks story, book 9 in the Crenshaw Kings series, and also the finale.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Let me start off by saying Mrs. Latrice gave me E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G I needed with this finale!

Let me tell you about Banks, FMC, 22 years old, vocal about her boundaries…

“That’s the last time I’m gonna tell you to keep your hands and hot ass breath to yourself.”

Latrice, Shvonne. Anything Necessary for Her (Crenshaw Kings Book 9). Kindle Edition.

Knows what she wants, and isn’t apologetic about it…

“ …I want a man who can walk in there and talk his shit back if needed! Why on earth would I want a man I love or desire to go in there and not stand up for himself?”

Latrice, Shvonne. Anything Necessary for Her (Crenshaw Kings Book 9). Kindle Edition.

And stands on business…

“I don’t give a fuck what you realized. It’s not that type of party,… where you can act out and then show up with puppy dog eyes and crocodile tears telling me how damaged you are so I can forgive you. Regardless of what you’re going through, you are a grown ass man, and you know exactly what you should and shouldn’t be doing.

Latrice, Shvonne. Anything Necessary for Her (Crenshaw Kings Book 9). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: EACH AND EVERY TIME!

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Just to make sure, that there won’t be any misunderstandings. I loved Banks! Banks is secure in herself, discerning, and knows that she is deserving of everything!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Wasn’t she a bit spoiled though?

SheReadsaLot: Is it spoiled, or knowing what she wants, and not accepting of anything less than? And if she was?

And we had Low, MMC, 26 years old, carrying the world on his shoulders!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What he went through?!

SheReadsaLot: Not one child should ever be put in such positions!

Not always making the best decisions when it came to his down stairs occupant.

“You know fucking on her ain’t gon’ end well, right? …. She walked right in this muthafucka like she the boss.”
“She can think what she wants but she know what’s up”

Latrice, Shvonne. Anything Necessary for Her (Crenshaw Kings Book 9). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

And when he falls?

I’ll run through LA like my last name is Bundy on any nigga thinking he can percolate then ruin what the fuck we got.

Latrice, Shvonne. Anything Necessary for Her (Crenshaw Kings Book 9). Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot: Low is kind enough to give off several warnings before hand though!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I actually have to agree with you on that one! But let the audience know what you thought, without doing too much!

This finale gave me everything to let me feel a bit more at ease on saying goodbye. Mrs. Latrice gave me fleshed out rounded characters to love, some characters and situations to shake my head at..

SheReadsaLot: Because…

Drama, suspense, so many laughs, and updates on the lives of the Comptons and St. Thomas’.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I’m happy!

Week Closer

Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry by Mrs. Ke’Asia Morris

My last book for this week was Mrs. Ke’Asia Morris’ latest release, Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry.

About Ken’Dryx, FMC, teacher, mother, wife. Stagnant in a marriage she is finding her way out of!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: That man took her through it!!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And to later find out that the marriage bed hadn’t been defiled not once in the last year?

SheReadsaLot:

And we have Jovonie, MMC, who knows at first glance that Ken’Dryx is the one for him.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: I was stuck on his looks at first!

SheReadsaLot:

something about black men and gold teeth

Morris, Ke’Asia. Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry: A Standalone Romance. Cole Hart Signature, LLC. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am I don’t even blame you!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Jovonie’s bedroom skills after

SheReadsaLot:

“Fuck,” I forced out as Jovonie bent me over, his hand still around my neck and fingers still rubbing my nipples, but he added a steady stroking motion, as if he was hitting me from the back.

Morris, Ke’Asia. Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry: A Standalone Romance. Cole Hart Signature, LLC. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am again…. I don’t blame you!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Jovonie’s care for his loved ones and those that Ken’Dryx loved however? Took it over the top for me!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But mostly his bedroom skills huh?

SheReadsaLot: I mean… Them in the bedroom? Or outside of it?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what were you thinking?

Mrs. Morris gave us a story filled with some life lessons…

here. I just hope you’re smart enough to realize that doors your talent can open for you, your mouth can close. Talking doesn’t get you paid.

Morris, Ke’Asia. Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry: A Standalone Romance. Cole Hart Signature, LLC. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Maybe we should call it reminders? Because…

But the older I got, the more I realized that I was complacent. I was not happy, but I stayed because it was easier … and eventually God had to hurt me for me to let him go. For me to open my eyes and see.”

Morris, Ke’Asia. Sacred Vows & Dirty Laundry: A Standalone Romance. Cole Hart Signature, LLC. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot: Maybe we should, because we have been guilty of some complacency one way or the other. And this was definitely a reminder to not do so!

Mrs. Morris gave us some laughs to balance out the heavier moments as well, because they were indeed there!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And I know you wanna say it, so please do before you explode!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And Mrs. Morris brought the N-A-S-T-Y Y’all!

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! Lets see how next week will fare.
