Week in Review – W42

Starting off like always! By taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.

I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art. And.

It’s been a week, without me actively posting my reads, and I’m still unsure on how I’m going to balance posting about my reads, reading, and my (eye) health.

Thinking about weekly appreciation posts, and maybe ramble about a max of three reads for the week?

But that’s of later worry. I’ve been reading! Not on the level I’m accustomed to, but reading still the same.

This Week in Review is going to be a short one, as I’m only doing a more in-depth recounting of my feelings on three reads for this week.

But…

Some stats about my week

  • I completed 6 books this week
  • by 6 different authors (1 new to me)
  • totaling 1.465 pages read
  • making it 244.2 pages per book
  • averaging 209.3 pages read per day

Overview of the books read/posted

  1. The Crownless King by Mrs. Dria Andersen
  2. Fumble. Pass. Repeat by Mrs. T’Lyn
  3. Ducati Mob: Full Throttle by Mr. Kold
  4. Ash’s Tale by Mrs. Kimmie Ferrell
  5. How to Kill Your Readers by Mrs. J.R. Mason
  6. Maybe for the Summer by Mrs. Aubree Pynn

Week Opener

My first finished read this week was provided to me by Mrs. Dria Andersen, The Crownless King.

A read that mixes the paranormal with history and revisions it, giving us a glimpse into what would happen if the enslaved had received gifts to combat their oppressors.

This book is the first book in Mrs. Andersen’s new series, The South USA.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

Vampires, Love, Spice and also Prejudices and Power hungry characters.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

  • The power hungry characters managing to trample all my nerves.
  • The love that blossomed between the MC’s
  • The growth of the FMC, standing up for her family and herself.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

I’m not talking in-depth about it, but I am talking about it, so yes!

My second finished read for this week, was an accidental re-read by Mrs. T’Lyn, Fumble. Pass. Repeat.

An American Football sports romance, where the MMC get’s traded unexpectedly and is unhappy about it. And the FMC who has to welcome him to the new team.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

Spice, Love, Dad that Stepped up, and also Spermdonor not willing to be a father, gaslighting, disrespect in varying degrees.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

  • MMC being the father that FMC’s son desperately needed
  • FMC being gaslighted by the MMC!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: The FMC had a deserved flipping out moment! Now could she have done this at another moment?

SheReadsaLot: Maybe… He was wrong for that though!!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

My answer still hasn’t changed… I am talking about it, so yes!

Book three, was by new to me author Kold, Ducati Mob: Full Throttle.

About a MC gang, focused on doing heists. However on their last heist, something doesn’t go according to plan.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

Fast paced storytelling, multiple characters, intrigue, murder and betrayal.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

  • All the secrets
  • Strong women
  • It read like a television series.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

I’m still here, so yes. Do be aware of your triggers though if you continue this series. I discovered recently that I apparently don’t deal too well with bodily fluids going into unexpected places…

Book number four was a re-read but not. I read Ash’s Tale by Mrs. Kimmie Ferrell when it was first published with the Black Romance Exclusive Promotion, now releasing on October 20th through amazon.

Ash’s Tale is a Cinderella re-telling set in a contemporary setting, with a matchmaking-slash-date-for-hire trope.

The first time I read this, I very demurely let Mrs. Ferrell know that I wouldn’t mind getting another helping of Mr. Ash.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsLot: I mean a man who knows how to take charge.

SheReadsaLot: Without being overbearing?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Knows how to put people in their place without becoming violent, while still being able to communicate the severity of the transgression?

SheReadsaLot:

So when Mrs. Ferrell let me know that Ash’s Tale got extended and reworked a bit? Naturally…

*Flashback to SheReadsaLot*

And I was happy I did.

Ash still had me fanning myself. But who wouldn’t when Ash tells you.

“Slip those panties to the side for me. Show me that pretty p*ssy.”

Ash’s Tale by Mrs. Kimmie Ferrell

SheReadsaLot: I don’t know, there is just something so deliciously filthy about sliding panties to the side…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I can’t even act that it isn’t the same for me! But let us not get off course. What more did this read give you?

It introduced us to a character we wanted to read more about.

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

Gave us some villains, and also some side-eye moments.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I get that you don’t have to fight all battles. Live to see another day and all that

SheReadsaLot: But trying to run away when a woman approaches you for a question?

And it gave me some closure, because these characters were so deserving of love, and I was happy to see them receiving it.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And again… Ash!!!

And then I got another advanced readers copy, this time from Mrs. J.R. Mason, who is releasing book 3 in her How to Kill series. This time Mrs. Mason is killing readers in How To Kill Your Readers… And she is not alone.

SheReadsaLot: READERS???!!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: Now what do you mean with “I Mean”?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I mean have you seen how these readers have been bombarding authors with their crashouts when they didn’t manage to snag a book?

SheReadsaLot: I mean having to volunteer as tribute to the hunger games to get your hands on a book isn’t exactly opportune. I mean I’mma do it… and also..

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am there are readers out there harassing authors about scenes in books, going around spoiling books without mentioning that a spoiler is on the way, being in the DM’s of authors trying to re-write their books!

SheReadsaLot: I mean if you explain it like that…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I mean… I’m not saying Mrs. Mason is right… I’m just…

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Going a bit off course here, so let me bring it back.

If there is one thing very much clear about Mrs. Mason, it’s that she doesn’t like nor appreciate spoilers! Mrs. Mason is sure to remind you in each and every book. Also… She is one of the most pettiest authors I know.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And how did you ascertain that Mrs. Mason is petty?

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And why is it important for readers to know this?

It’s important to know this, because she is not above writing you in her books to kill you off.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: And that’s why I’m riding a tightrope here in telling you how good, hilarious, and educational this book *cough* manual *cough* was.

So let me tell you what I learned.

  • I learned that there are authors out there who know how to milk snakes.
  • I learned that the bit of entitlement we see out there online is just the tip of the iceberg
  • I learned more about the writing process
  • I learned never to piss off a thriller author or five or seven
  • I learned my humor is almost just as dark as Mrs. Mason’s, because I was cackling!
  • I learned that there is nothing like sisterhood!
  • And I learned I need to tighten up some… Because even though I don’t really people??

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Like I said, I need to tighten up!

And when you decide to pick up this book… Remember.. It’s a thriller! It’s fiction! And disrespect and spoilers? In this read? It gets you killed.

Week Closer

Leading me to the last finished book for this week by Mrs. Aubree Pynn, Maybe For The Summer.

A Contemporary Romance with some urban elements due to the ties Lucci (MMC, Rapper) still has with the streets. Lucci meets Daysha as a celebrity concierge due to just having lost her job.

SheReadsaLot: That man really needed to receive a whooping. Because how are you going to snake someone you supposedly respect like that?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: It was Kizzie for me Sis…

SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

I read this one in physical form and had so much fun annotating this read.

Mrs. Pynn is in the same group of authors that don’t seem to miss in my book. Because she like the others in that same group always seem to feed my mind and soul. Meaning that this time wasn’t any different.

With Lucci, Mrs. Pynn gace us a MMC who was finally letting life back in, and with Daysha Mrs. Pynn gave us a FMC sure of herself and her desires.

We get taken on a journey of healing, and discernment with many thought provoking circumstances and talks, while Mrs. Pynn steadily pours not only into the story but also in us as the reader by talking life into us through her characters.

As always when you decide to pick up this read by Mrs. Pynn, be sure to read the triggers… Because trust me they are very much present. And also Mrs. Pynn just has a way with her trigger warnings.

And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! I’m not telling you anything about next week. Because I really don’t know what next week will bring me.
