Starting off like always by taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.
I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art. And.
Week 3 of 2026! After a short break, I went back to work.
Besides going back to work, I also decided to participate in the analog challenge, by reading a physical book for at least 10 minutes, without making use of a device!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: And how was that?
SheReadsaLot: You know I’m a kindle reader! BUT, I loved it!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Which book did you decide to use for this challenge though?
SheReadsaLot: It’s not like it’s a secret though! And I decided to pick up a book from my physical TBR. Mr. Carter G. Woodson’s The Mis-Education of the Negro.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A book from your physical TBR? AND non-fiction?
SheReadsaLot:
And naturally I was reading my fiction books as well. So let me tell you more about those books.
I opened up my week with Mrs. Evelyn Latrice‘s latest release, The 19th Hole.
About a pro-golfer, Zaire, who seems to have lost parts of himself along the way, and Meadow, who is drowning in her role of being the firstborn, and the expectations of legacy.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
When you pick up this read be prepared to be all up and through your feelings!
Some of the feelings I experienced were rage!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You don’t say!
SheReadsaLot: Ma’am you knowthat an easy way to get me riled up are micro and macro aggressions. And did they (Zaire AND Meadow) or did they not experience the spectrum of them?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So you do have a point there!
The feelings of rage were combatted by feelings of elation, at the folktales being incorporated, the connection with ancestral land, and history. Feelings of joy for them being seen, and appreciation for who they are. Feelings of vindication, your name is worthy of being spoken. And overall feelings of contentment because they received in each other exactly what they needed.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
Being surrounded by people who see, and respect the whole of you is of immeasurable value.
Don’t be ashamed to ask for help.
Make them say your name!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
RESOUNDING YES! I told you about the feels, the history, the incorporation of folktales, AND I’m talking about the book??
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So basically, you’re telling them to go and read this book post-haste?
After that book, I didn’t know what I wanted to read next. And there was Mrs. Neiney.ThaReadinDoula with the rec of a new to me author. Mrs. Tiffany Grey. After reading the description of Daddy:
Daddy by Mrs. Tiffany Grey
Let’s just say I was intrigued!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
An unhinged MMC, laugh out loud moments, cheating, and plot twists!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
Expectations of complying to tomfoolery, and acquiescing
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: That stuck with you the most?
SheReadsaLot: Sure did! Because how are you just going along with it? That man was as wrong as two left feet!!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
As always I’m writing about it, so yes. This time with a caveat, there is cheating, an unaliving, and mention of infertility, in this read. If these are triggers for you? Then No.
After reading Daddy, I decided to pick up Triggered from Mrs. Tiffany Grey.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
Unhinged characters, mental health representation, and messiness.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
Leave when people don’t see you.
Love yourself!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Those sound about the same!
SheReadsaLot: They do, but they aren’t. Let me tell you why!
A lot of times people are standing on the sidelines, or accepting of situations in hopes of being seen. This can happen in all sort of situations, being relationships, the workplace, and/or societal. Where people will be bending over backwards doing the work in hopes of being appreciated, and getting the role they are vying for.
SheReadsaLot: Do they get that role they are vying for, though?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay, so I get that part, so what makes it different?
SheReadsaLot: I know I’m oversimplifying right now, and I’mma do it anyway!
For people to be able to leave? They have to know their worth, and that starts with loving themselves. So my takeaways aren’t so much the same, they are more so complimentary.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
This one is also a yes with a caveat, as the main characters are unhinged, and a toxic mess together.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You finished it though!
I picked up My Boss’s Husband by Mrs. Denise Essex right after.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
This is a messy read y’all. I felt aggravated!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them why Ma’am!
SheReadsaLot: Because WHY if you are unhappy, and unfulfilled, WHY would you stay in that situation? Either you leave or you work at it!!
I also felt compassion! And most probably not for the person most would think!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: It was her right?
SheReadsaLot: Yes! She went through so much pain!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Didn’t justify her treatment of others though!
SheReadsaLot:
And there is a HEA.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
If you can’t or are unwilling to work on the relationship? LEAVE
You never know the experiences that helped shape someone, and inform their actions
Your experiences don’t justify your mistreatment of others
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
I would recommend this one. Please do be mindful of possible triggers as there are mentions of infertility, miscarriage, loss of a child to SIDS, and cheating.
Where Mrs. Jordyn2_Gorgeous recommended Mrs. Jackie Chanel‘s Chasin’ Dreamz series
SheReadsaLot: Let me go see what this book is about!
Reality dating tv show?
Music Industry?
A completed series?
This series follows Chase, FMC, who is a student with aspirations of becoming a music producer. Her all time favorite music producer is Dreamz, MMC, who is open for a relationship and decides to go in search for one through a dating show.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
Each book in this series is told from a single POV, book one and three are told through the eyes of Chase, and book two through the eyes of Dreamz.
These read offers you drama, chemistry, peaks into reality tv making and producing, coping mechanisms for grief, mental health representation, love, and some messy baby mama’s.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
Mental health is not something you should hide or take lightly
Listen when women tell you that someone is still interested.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: We do be knowing!
SheReadsaLot:
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
YES! YES! YES! YES!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: You want to explain?
SheReadsaLot: Look, the first book released in 2015. And I am just finding about her pen? I’m currently still going through her catalog, and the storytelling? Quality? The feelings her writing invoked?
Like I said, I’m currently still going through Mrs. Jackie Chanel‘s catalog, and I took Mrs. Jordyn2_Gorgeous‘s advice:
And picked up A Queens story part 1: Lyric.Where we get to know about how Lyric became a Queen of Queens.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?
This read leans more towards a coming of age, as we are introduced to Lyric as a 10 year old, and the MMC, Knight as a 16 year old. At the time that a relationship is established between these characters they are 22 and 28 respectively.
Where Chasin’ Dreamz dealt with grief, this read deals with PTSD after a violent attack. Besides these heavier themes, this read features the music industry as well, and also the (alternative) journalism world in the form of podcasting
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?
Words can hurt as much if not more than stones and bricks
The stigma of mental health needs to be dealt with
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?
I’m currently on book two of this series (but haven’t finished yet), so it’s a yes! And I will come back to this one next week, after having completed the series.
And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! I’m not telling you anything about next week. Because I really don’t know what next week will bring me.
