Week in Review – W9

Starting off like always by taking out a small amount of time to once again express my appreciation for all the authors that I’ve read this week.

I see your time, efforts, and dedication to your expression of art. And.

Mentally I’m not in the best of states, but I will continue to try to find pockets of joy in these dark times.

Week Opener

I opened this week with

A Sky Full of Love by Mrs. Lorna Lewis

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

This is a story about healing, about family, about relationships, about enduring, and about strength.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

This one was different.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Why?

SheReadsaLot: Nova, went through a lot, physically and mentally, Mrs. Lewis took great care in solely inferring to the physical torment Nova had to endure

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So what does that mean?

SheReadsaLot: It means it’s difficult for me to really pinpoint what stuck with me the most. Because all of the feelings of betrayal Nova experienced? Valid! And also… 15 years had past, when is the time to start living again?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay, I somewhat get what you’re putting down! And also… living again with your sister’s husband?

SheReadsaLot: Like I said… Different…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

Yes.

This read has gone on my favorites list, as it was a story that felt like one I hadn’t read before. Mrs. Lewis took her time in letting us feel and experience both sides of the situation, while both parties were on their way to healing, their mental, and relationships. There are triggers present however, as this deals with an abduction, mental health, and a strained parent/child relationship.

I followed that up with

Wage of Sin by Mrs. Desiree Mickel

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

A read about prejudices, hypocrisy, and how it can lead to destruction!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

wp-1772333855365

SheReadsaLot: Did I say something wrong?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: I’m trying to figure out, how you came to that introduction?

SheReadsaLot:

What made them reject Leon?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Their prejudice with regards to his looks…

SheReadsaLot: What happened to Leon for him to have gotten the looks they were prejudiced against?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: A man unable to take accountability for his wrongdoing…

SheReadsaLot: Yes, a hypocrite…And for the finale… What did it all lead to?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Destruction…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

How narrowmindedness, and the inability to stand up for what is right and just, are true hindrances to society.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: It feels like you’re not just talking about this book anymore…

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

Yes, but!

This book was released in 2016, and up until this point hasn’t gotten a follow up.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Which means that we most probably will never find out what happened after she entered that room!

SheReadsaLot:

Booked Boyfriends, Bad Decisions by Mrs. A. Blossom

was next!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from this read?

A Friends to Lovers romance, with a lot of mess, anxiety, and some good loving between the pages.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

How overthinking can keep you safe, but will also have you missing out on what could be the best thing of your life!

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Harlowe had some good reasons though!

SheReadsaLot: You mean Rasheem being her ex’s brother, and her former best friend having been Rasheem’s fiancée?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: I mean… it could be a bit messy…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

Yes…

Only IF! What I mentioned isn’t a trigger for you.

Secret Baby With a Hood Rich Menace by Mrs. SL Partee

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from these reads?

If you’re anything like me? Expect to be judging the heck out of the FMC for her choices…

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

I was happy that the FMC got a chance to find her way, and even when she went astray, she knew that she would always have a place to go back to with her family.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Her family was the true MVP of this story

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Community is important!

SheReadsaLot: It truly is! As is taking accountability! Because she really did the most….

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

Yes

This is an Urban Fiction/Romance. Like the title said, there is a hidden baby. Some other possible triggers are, eyewitness to murder, drug use, domestic violence, and cheating (not by the main characters).

The Phyre That Burns by Mrs. Kay Shanee

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from these reads?

A second chance romance, with ups and downs.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

The way Ginae stood on business about what she expected, so she would feel safe in their relationship. AND

sometimes hearing someone out, before jumping to conclusions can prevent a lot of pain and anguish.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Phyre could’ve prevented a whole lot as well, had he spoken up beforehand!

SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

SheReadsaLot: Do I really need to say it?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Yes! And also, there is possible triggering content as there is mention of a miscarriage, abortion, and physical assault.

Week Closer

Love Jones: Feist & Araceli by Mrs. Coya Wilson

is how I decided to close this week.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Tell them what they can expect from these reads?

A fast paced, feel good romance.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: What stuck with you the most?

The camaraderie between the characters, and the joy between these pages.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Recommend?

A resounding yes.

And that is how we’ve come to the end of this Week in Review! We’ll see what next week will bring us.
