“Don’t be afraid to experience love’s dark and light times.
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
The beauty of it is in both.”
A FULFILLING
Read

So, it’s been a while since I last did this. You know life, and all that. But let me tell you about this book I read, A Love You Can’t Hide by Mrs. T.S. Martin, and am still thinking about!!
But before I can continue on that road. If you remember, there is somewhat of an order to how we do things around here. And I figured out how to link on page, so you can choose how I’ll tell you about it.

And we all know this is necessary, and I don’t like to catch you off guard with possible triggering content. Neither does Mrs. T.S. Martin that’s why she gave us a content warning:
This book contains explicit language, scenes of violence, and depictions of sexual content. Reader discretion is advised. Book also depicts parental death (off page), alcoholism, and depictions of grief.
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
My shortened take away on this here read?
It’s Captivating! Exhilerating! Emotionally challenging! Engaging, and rivetingly human!
You already know that…

Because I am here talking to you about this book!
Mrs. Martin, to me (remember this is my blog, and my opinion), has written her best work to date (and her entire catalog is already on my shelves IYKYK).
This book arrived at the most opportune time for me (because I was truly in a slump), and gave me exactly what I needed. An emotionally challenging read interspersed with levity, xennial/millenial references, sensuality, sexiness, likeable characters, love and intrigue.
Mrs. Martin managed to make these people feel so real to me, I felt their struggles, their fears, their love, and jubilation. These weren’t caricatures, these characters made me feel as if I was a fly on the wall. Providing me with a better understanding of their inner workings, while I got to experience them letting their love come out of hiding.

Recommend?
You already know this, but for those who are new around these parts.
I’m writing about it, so yes! A standalone post? I’m most definitely recommending it. However if what I mentioned triggers or impacts you negatively? Always choose your mental wellbeing.

SheReadsaLot to Audience:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: Thanks for joining me… If you’re here, you know that there is a possibility for spoilers, even though I will try my hardest not to.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: So… It’s been a while since you last did this huh?
SheReadsaLot: Yes… It has been… A very long time… And not because I haven’t read some bangers… You know how sometimes your mind just won’t give you space to?

SheReadsaLot: So… let me continue… where was I again? Yes, the introduction!
SheReadsaLot to Audience: You know the saying “Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, and great minds discuss ideas”? I accepted early on that I’m a multifaceted person. I will talk to you about ideas and concepts one moment, world and life events the next, and will be knee deep listening to some mess that took place after. And in knowing and accepting that about me. This ramble is gonna be a toss up!!

Introducing the Characters
Let me start at the beginning, and let you know that Mrs. Martin decided to take us to the wrong side of the law this time… I am talking G-O-O-N-S of the highest order!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: What is it this time?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… Isn’t Aceyn a cop? His parents FBI? And Shaun an Assistant District Attorney?
SheReadsaLot:

So like I said… G-O-O-N-S of the highest order!
SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Martin: How did you go from respectable men to some thugs? What happened?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot: Fine… I guess I’ll tone it down some…

SheReadsaLot to Audience: So… Some of these characters have uncoventional occupations… Let me stop dilly-dallying and get in to it.
Aceyn goes by Ace, a man in blue, 38 years of age , has gotten dealt a bad hand in life through childhood parental loss of his parents…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Don’t forget to mention that his parents were very much absent during his childhood because of their work for the FBI.
SheReadsaLot to Audience:

And has some coping skills that aren’t always the healthiest.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… Why are you being so vague this time? Mrs. Martin mentions it in her content warning?
This book contains explicit language, scenes of violence, and depictions of sexual content. Reader discretion is advised. Book also depicts parental death (off page), alcoholism, and depictions of grief.
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: So yes… He overindulges in alcohol, and sometimes drowns his sorrows by dipping his stick in some honeydip.
Then we have Mia, 36 years of age, owns her own pilates studio, and is Ace’s best friend Jah’s younger sister.
Ace and Mia have known eachother since childhood, and have maintained an amicable relationship for years.
Mia is currently in a relationship with Shaun.
SheReadsaLot: Ma’am do I really have to talk about him???

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: He is a part of the story Ma’am… So yes… you must!
SheReadsaLot to Audience:
Shaun Warren was an attorney and Assistant District Attorney…
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: Frankly… a horrible human being!
Ace:
Fake ass Michael B. Jordan looking m*therf*cker
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot: I’m with you when you’re right Ace!
SheReadsaLot to Audience: This isn’t the complete cast, but I can’t give away the complete cast! Just know that there are several additional members that contribute to this story, that weaves suspense, and mystery into this romance!
What about Dom…
There are a lot of different avenue’s I could’ve gone with this here book, because so many themes are touched upon…
However… The one that really had me questioning was…
“What in the f*ck are you saying, Mia? So Shaun’s crazy is a hell no, but Ace’s is panty-wetting?”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.

SheReadsaLot to Audience: You are probably wondering why I used this quote huh?
It’s because of Ace, and *cough* Shaun *cough*…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… You are doing the most!
SheReadsaLot: I can’t help it… He triggers my allergy!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ma’am… You don’t have any allergies!

SheReadsaLot: Yes, I do! I’m allergic to F*ck N*ggas!

SheReadsaLot to Audience: So on to Ace, and that other guy…
Ace:
“I’m a dominant in and outside the bedroom Angel.”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
When I tell you that this was palpable in each and every way that Ace moved across the page? P-A-L-P-A-B-L-E!
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: But so was Shaun right?
SheReadsaLot: You mean the man that can’t control his nether regions at being called mister, regardless of which woman addresses him so?
“Right this way, Mr. Warren” She said, urging us to follow her. Shaun suddenly cleared his throat as we followed her…
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
I would definitely get to the bottom of it, because if his reaction to the hostess saying it garnered the same response he’d given me earlier…
Leaving me to question:
What is a dominant?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Don’t worry Mrs. Martin got us!
SheReadsaLot:

Through this read Mrs. Martin juxtaposes that man with Ace.
Sometimes in simple ways…
“Hey, Shaun, what are you doing here?”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
…
“A n*gga can’t come by and see his fine *ss woman?” He questioned…
…
“I didn’t say that. I would just like you to call or text me first.”
vs
“What are you doing here, Ace? You didn’t let me know you were coming by”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
…
“I wanted to surprise you … and I needed to see you”
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Isn’t that the same thing though?
SheReadsaLot: Maybe surface level it’s the same, but look in the way they respond to being questioned… Where one is very much defensive, and deflecting by making it general “a n*gga”, the other is responding from a point of selfawareness “I wanted”, “I needed”.
And other times in more convoluted ways.
“I’ve been trying to introduce you to BDSM for some time now. You’re the perfect sub.” He said.
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
“Wait, what?” I asked.
vs
“Who told you that you can f*ck me, Angel?” I asked calmly…
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay… So why are you referencing this particular part of Ace and Mia? Because you know he left my girl hanging there… Right?

SheReadsaLot: So yes… Ace definitely did Mia dirty!!! AND… Ace made the dynamics clear from the onset. He didn’t just hint at it like that boy in a man’s body did.
SheReadsaLot to the one she doesn’t want to name: How do you think that a woman like Mia, who needs her control, who needs to have a say so in the dynamics at play, WOULD EVER, go along with something not outright named? And to do so through manipulation?

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Didn’t Ace do the same though?
SheReadsaLot: Look… Ace was a bit misguided in some of his actions… It was the reasoning behind it though! He was operating out of love, protection, where that other one was most definitely operating out of a need to control the woman he was with.

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to Audience: It is different though! Trust me!
Dom Is…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Okay… So what did you learn about being a dominant through this read?
SheReadsaLot:

A dominant through this read I’d consider to be:
- Self-possessed
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Ace did panic a bit though…
SheReadsaLot: I mean… wouldn’t you, if you see the love of your life just slipping through your hands?
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

- Aware of their emotional state, and needs
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Now… was Ace truly aware? I mean he coped in some toxic ways!

SheReadsaLot: He did do so, AND he did so because he was aware of his emotional state, and knew what would help him through it at that point in time. Now was it in the healthiest of way… No… Was he aware? Yes!
- Aware of the needs, and emotional state of their partner
SheReadsaLot: You don’t even have to say a word! I know he messed up that one time… BUT there were extenuating circumstances Ma’am…
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

- Isn’t selfish
SheReadsaLot:

SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot:

- Cares deeply
- Communicates clearly
- Operates on consent
SheReadsaLot to SheReadsaLot: Well… that’s a comprehensive list… Do you think this is the reason why Mia accepted Ace’s dominant nature?
SheReadsaLot: It is for sure why she accepted it. Mia is one of the most discerning FMC’s I’ve read, and in her own words…
“… if a man could, he could.”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.
SheReadsaLot and SheReadsaLot:

Recommend?

This book, to me, was everything!!! You know… the backstory, character development, the emotions, their love, their communication, the suspense…
Yes, Yes, I know I didn’t go into too much detail or even touched upon all those aspects I mentioned of this read. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t there though. It does mean, that they need to be experienced by the reader, and see which aspects resonate more with you.
If you know about me, I don’t easily do re-reads. They have to be either in a different format, or a read that soothes something in me. This read is the latter for me. I felt seen through Mia, I learned new words (“obstreperous”), I got that nostalgic feel through movie references.
Mia:
“Okay, alright, you think you can do this shit to me, Ace!”
Martin, T.S. A Love You Can’t Hide. Kindle Edition.

Laughter through their interactions, and so much more.
SheReadsaLot to Audience: I AM TELLING YOU! LIFE!
SheReadsaLot to Mrs. Martin: I can’t wait to have this trophy on my shelf!
YES, I absolutely do want you to read this book, and hopefully love it as much as I did, However if what I mentioned triggers or impacts you negatively? Always choose your mental wellbeing.
